Introduction

Shree Gyan Mandir Model Secondary school is located at the Chautara Sangachok Gadhi Municipality in Sindhupalchok district. It is nearly 85 km far away from capital city of Nepal. It is on the lap of beautiful Jugal Mountain. This school was established in 1975 A.D. It had initially run the elementary classes. With the span of time, we are now able to run from elementary up to class 12. While turning to the past, teaching learning activities were held in the old, unmanaged cottage. Children of that time had to study under the open sky writing on the floor, on the wooden slate with the help of sticks and chalks. Study would be disrupted when there were rain and heavy winds. Gradually the situation had been changed. With the expansion of government and non government organization's help, school's physical infrastructure was changed. This school met a turning point when Nepalhilfe Beilngries e. V. Germany (NHB) joined its hand with us.

Location of the school

This school is located at Chautara Sangachokgadhi Municipality ward no- 7, Melchaur. It lies nearly 85 kilometers far away from capital city Kathmandu and about 2 kilometers away from district headquarters, Chautara. It is situated beside the Bandew Chautara Highway at Melchaur.

Catchment area of the school

As this school is located in the mid of the Chautara Sangachok Municipality, many students from different part of the municipality have easy access to it. Feeder schools of mainly ward no 5,8 and 9 of this municipality except ward no 7 itself are its catchment area.

Historical/Educational Background

This school was established in 2032 B.S. after the effort of the then educationists, social activists and general people of this community. It had initially run the elementary classes. While turning to the past, teaching learning activities were held in the old, unmanaged cottage. Children of that time had to study under the open sky writing on the floor, on the wooden slate with the help of sticks and chalks. Inspite of having cottage study would be disrupted when there were rain and heavy winds. Gradually the situation had been changed. With the expansion of government and non government organization's help, school's physical infrastructure have been changed. Starting from primary level, it was upgraded to Lower secondary and now it is secondary level community school. Class 11 and 12 have been run in the morning shift as we have no enough classrooms for the day time and rest of other classes are in day time. From class Nursery to class 8, medium of classroom instruction is fully English and from class 8 to 10, both medium of instruction have been used.

Plan

In spite of having beautiful buildings, we need to have many other software programs to meet the needs of 21st century. Teaching children is changing the current behavior of children in hygiene, sanitation and attitude of using modern scientific devices. Our topmost vision is to make our children able to live by their own skills being creative and cope up with the modern world. We have specially formulated the following planning in the coming days.

  • The notion of grade teaching will be introduced in early classes which are fully covered by more than 2000 reference books and by the children's literature in each classes. Enough materials will be provided so that children will learn by doing with fun and by experience. Grade teachers of such classes will be timely facilitated by the experienced trainers to change the day to day behavior of the teachers. There will be parenting sessions which might disclose the level of changed behaviors of their children. These all activities might strengthen the foundation of learning. We have just begun this program. However many things need to be done yet.
  • Each female student can use menstruation pad in menstruation period. Hygiene kits will be provided to all students. Clean drinking water will be ensured by using water filter and using other ways. Various health campaign for washing systematically will be conducted and provision of monitoring will be formulated and the changed level of sanitation will be evaluated. School will encourage the people of this community about environmental health. Our focus will be on long lasting environmental development.
  • E-library will be established where each students could explore the knowledge by searching and self learning will be motivated.
  • The concept of digitalized classrooms will be introduced in each class. One teacher one laptop concept will be fulfilled followed by a projector. Each teacher might follow information communication technologies in their classes. Modern innovative techniques and methods will be searched and applied in the classrooms. Teacher's and students'-activities will be observed by connecting the CC camera in the classrooms and school's premises. Online virtual classes will be run. The record of Students and teachers' presence will be kept in attendance machine.
  • We want to expose our activities through School's website and have just used financial and evaluation software to make the income expenditure transparent to the all stakeholders. Games and sports will be on high preference. Materials for them will be provided.
  • A well-managed science lab and computer lab will be set up. Materials for classroom study will be collected, made and bought. A separate library for mathematics and social studies will be set up.
